Support Group Volunteers

Support parents to feel empowered, increase their confidence, and enable them to use their experiences for the greater good.

The Plymouth Parent Advocacy Project has been running support groups for parents for the past three years. Our primary aim has been to try to encourage peer support, and provide parents with an opportunity to feel less isolated and more integrated in a community.

Over the last few years, we have discovered that parents engage positively with consultation work, and really value being able to use their experiences to make constructive suggestions regarding current policies and procedures. We always seek to involve the parents in the work we do, and group work is often where they can be encouraged to express their views. By providing a group with a strong purpose, friendships can be formed along side, and parents can begin to develop a real sense of self-worth as a result of having their experiences and opinions acknowledged.

You can be a part of this valuable intervention, by volunteering with us to help facilitate group support, as well as consultation and evaluation work.
