Volunteering

Volunteers are an integral and valued part of the whole team here at Plymouth Highbury Trust.

CURRENT VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES:

Support a parent with a learning disability at meetings about their child or children within children services.

These meetings could be at the Early Help stages based at the school or Child in Need meetings when the parent would be working more closely with children’s social services or LAC Reviews, which are the Looked After Child Reviews that take place if the children are in foster care.

The support provided will allow the parent to prepare for the meeting, not feel alone, better understand information that is being shared and enable them to have their voice heard as well as have the opportunity to share their own valuable views.

The timeframe for this position can differ depending on the parent’s situation and your own – we always keep in mind your own commitments and what suits you. Generally, this role requires 1-3 hours a week unless you are only supporting a parent at a LAC Review every 6 months, in which case it could be less time required.

Support women with learning disabilities attending our domestic abuse awareness course.

From helping with the role play, assisting to take notes, or stepping outside with one of the women who may be struggling with something covered in the course and just needs a little time out for example, this role is impactful and rewarding.

The course is 6 weeks long with sessions twice a week at 3 hours long. Please note you do not need to be at every session and a rota is developed for the volunteers, keeping in mind your own commitments.
