Independent Mental Capacity Advocate

Location: Plymouth

Salary: £24,300.00-£27,000.00 per year

Job Overview:

To provide Advocacy for people who lack capacity in accordance with the Mental Capacity Act 2005, Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards, subsequent regulations and associated codes of practice.

No prior experience in Independent Mental Capacity Advocacy (IMCA) is required. Full training and necessary qualifications will be provided to successful candidates. We are looking for individuals who are passionate about supporting vulnerable individuals and who are willing to learn and grow within this field. Once you successfully complete the relevant qualification, you'll be eligible for a salary increase to recognize your enhanced skills and expertise. We value continuous learning and invest in our employees' professional development.

An Enhanced DBS check is required for this role, but the cost will be covered by the employer initially.

A valid UK driver’s license with access to a vehicle is essential for this role, as regular visits to various locations are required.

Job Description:

· An IMCA represents those who are unable to do so themselves

· In this role you will ascertain the views of a client, champion their rights, beliefs, and wishes.

· Undertake home visits, work within local hospitals and care homes within the Plymouth council area.

· Review records and care plans

· Submit high quality reports based on accurate record keeping

· Challenge decision makers and seek second opinions where needed

· Communicate effectively with clients who struggle with communication using a variety of techniques

· Have an awareness of safeguarding

· Manage emotionally challenging situations and resolve professional conflict

· Liaise, communicate and negotiate effectively with a range of health and social care personnel, managers, and family members.

· Manage a caseload of clients with variable abilities and needs

· A strong commitment to human rights, social justice, and a desire to hold institutions to account

· Network across private, voluntary, and statutory organisations to help your client reach their goals

· To work towards a strong understanding of the Mental Capacity Act 2005 and Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards

· Use IT effectively to manage your day and record keeping

Ability to listen effectively and communicate with a wide range of people, clients and professionals

Good organisational and time management skills

Ability to use Microsoft IT systems, specifically Word / email
